A medical condition in children and youth in which excessive fat accumulates in the body, caused by an imbalance of energy consumption and energy expenditure. It is defined as a body mass index at or above the 95th percentile for children and adolescents of the same age and sex. Childhood obesity may lead to premature death and disability in adulthood.
