Eighteen-carbon cyclopentyl polyunsaturated fatty acids derived from alpha-linolenic acid via an oxidative pathway analogous to the eicosanoids in animals. Biosynthesis is inhibited by salicylates. A key member, jasmonic acid of plants, plays a similar role to arachidonic acid in animals.
