CXCR6 gene is expressed in lymphoid tissues and activated peripheral blood lymphocytes. The protein, CXCR6 receptor, is a G-protein coupled receptor binding to ligand of chemokine CXCL16. CXCR6 also serves as co-receptors with CD4 for simian immunodeficiency virus and human immunodeficiency virus.
