This test is an alternative to the Median Lethal Dose (LD50) test in which animals are used for acute toxicity testing. Animals are dosed one at a time with a drug or toxic substance. If an animal survives, the dose for the next animal is increased; if it dies, the dose is decreased to determine toxicity level.
