Pollen coating consisting of sticky substances, which enables pollen adhesion to insect bodies and pollen packaging by bees. It is hydrophobic, viscous and mostly formed by degeneration of tapetum. Pollenkitt is composed mainly of lipids, carotenoids and terpenoid pigments. It protects pollen from radiation and dehydration.
