Esculin is a coumarin glucoside with molecular formula C15H16O9. It is naturally fluorescent, found in the leaves, seeds, and bark of some plant species (Aesculus hippocastanum/horse chest-nut, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, etc). It is known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antitumor and other biological properties.
