A fractal is an irregular fragmented shape and often discontinuous. A fractal dimension is an extension of the notion of dimension found in Euclidean geometry. Fractal dimensions can be non-integer (fractional). There is more than one way of computing a fractal dimension, one common type being the Hausdorff-Besicovich dimension.
